ARIQA CAVE


Today we are going to talk about Ariqa Cave, it’s a cave located in a village called Ariqa with a population of about 3,000 in southern Syria in the heart of the rocky volcanic plateau of Lejah (also called Lajat). Administratively Ariqah is situated in the Shahba district of As Suwayda Governorate.

 
Ariqah is known for its volcanic cave which is located in a 10 meters deep hollow in the centre of the village. This cave is known to extends from 2 to 3 kilometers in the old lava streams, it is the biggest known cave in southern Syria. According to researchers this cave was formed 450,000 years ago.



The cave became a destination for tourists and visitors, and was illuminated from the inside. This cave is always cold during winter and summer due to how deep the cave is.

 A restaurant and a large restroom were set up in the rocky cavity in front of the cave door, in an amazing place where concerts and live performances are held.

The restaurant inside serves all kind of meals, you can order Barbeque, sandwiches, vegetarian food, cold and hot drinks. Every now and then this restaurants brings local artists to perform and do a show there for their customers so they can enjoy some music while eating their meal, most of the songs they sing are traditional Syrian music and Classical Tarab music.
